A Gipsy Jungle expedition visited Trieste a week ago, to see Shantel and Bucovina Club in concert again. And it was something special! Maybe becouse we haven't seen them for quite some time, maybe becouse of the charming outdoor setting of the concert on the beach (if one ignored the cranes on the construciton site near the venue), maybe becouse the the guys played in front of the full house for the first time in Italy, or maybe becouse of the constant trubles with electricity, which even went off in the middle of the concert.
The concert started with a big delay, but when it finnaly started, it was one big shot of energy from beginning to the end. And the audience, among which was a lot of Slovenians from both side of the border, rewarded it big time. Youngsters and old ladies were dancing, jumping, singing along all evening long.
One of the most likeble things about the band is, despite the constant touring, the guys and the charming and energetic singer Vesna Petković, are still having lots of fun.
And the performance, which of course includeded all of our favourite songs, was completely different than the recordings on the album. They added some ska and some reggae into the songs, played it faster, added a solo which just wasn't there before...
During Disko partizani the trubles with power repeated. In the middle of the refrain, just when Shantel and Vesna were singing ciganizacija, ciganizacijaaa, the instruments went quiet, the light went off. But the crowd just continued to sing and dance. Some 30 seconds later, when the current went on again, it was like a little explosion of positive energy and music. And it stayed like that until the very end!
