GJ REPORT: ŠUKAR AT ROG FACTORY

8th of April is an international Roma day. A series of events took place in Ljubljana as well. And with a little bit of delaz, we are reporting about a concert of a Slovene group Šukar in Rog. To be honest the sound was far from perfect, the coincidental Gipsy guest from the public did not know how to sing, but the guys did their best and the full Rog hall apreciated every minute of it. And that is what counts for something, doesn't it?

GJ REPORT: COULD BE BETTER....

Not that it would be bad. O contraire... Boban and Marko Marković are masters of their trade, who play a good concert even on a bad night. To be honest, almost everybody who came to see their concert at Izbruhov kulturni bazen on Friday were delighted. The band provided the audience with lots of essential balkan brass hits, such as Mesečina, Buba mara, Kalašnikov, Ederlezi, Fatomori, Da zna zora and many more... But we did miss some other songs like Odpisani, Pijem, Ring ring, Zajdi, zajdi....
Maybe the guys just decided that a garland of hits would suit the mood better, and in fact everybody was jumping and dancing like crazy. Even before and after the concert, when DJ Tito was mixing some wicked balkanbeats grooves.
But somebody, who has seen Boban Marković Orkestar play five, six times already might be a little bit disappointed. All in all, it was good to see them in Slovenija again. Compliments to young and promising organisers, who invited the guys to Kranj. And can't wait to see the band again. On a better day if possible....

GJ RECOMMENDS: KLETZMER AVANTGARDE

Have nothign to do on this holiday evening? Check out the concert in Rog for some kletzmer avandgarde.... The guests of the evening will be two musicians from New York, Benji Fox Rosen and Sxip Shirey, accompanied by their fellow musicians from Vienna (among others members of Zivatar Utca). What to expect? First very dancable kletzmer music, which will graduate to a unique mixture of kletzmer, hip hop and avantgarde deriving from very unusual instruments...

For the first time in history urban gipsy sounds will overflow Rijeka (Croatia). The name of the place is Klub Filter, the present DJ's will be lovely DJane Luna Morado, the international man of debauchery Haris Pilton and jack from the jungle W.G. (My Hell Jackson).
The guys will take you on a trip from the Latin underground, gipsy balkan pulp fiction drum'n'brass madness, to the hot jungle sounds!

GIPSY JUNGLE HIGHLY RECOMMENDS: ORKESTAR BOBANA MARKOVIĆA

Tonight one of the best brass bend in the world in going to perform in Kranj. We are talking about Boban Marković Orkestar.
Boban is a legend without comparison. He won the Golden trumphet, First trumphet and Best orchestra of Guča festival so manny times, he decided to quit the cometition, so other bands would get a chance as well.
His band is playing all over the world, from Russia to USA, cooperating with the notorious musicians such as Goran Bregović, Esma Redžepova, Lajka Felix and manny others. He cooperated with Emir Kusturica in the movie Underground.
He published 12 albums, his song also apear on different compilations (Bucovina Club, Unblocked, Srbija: Sounds Global, Golden Brass Summit, Romano Suno, Balkanbeats...).
In the last couple of years his son Marko, who seems to have been born with a trumphet in his mouth is more and more taking the lead in the band. The consequence is a fresh and more urban sound, like the one in the song Pijem (I drink), which is a result of colaboration with German musician and producer Shantel.
Before and after the concert young and talented DJ Tito will take care of musical delights. Highly recomended!
