FROM TRIGLAV TO MACEDONIA

Remember the excellent concert from Fanfare Ciocarlia and Esma Redžepova in Križanke last month? Well, here is a little movie about it, if you maybe forgot or by terrible mistake missed it all together. The video was recorded and edited by Gadni, with a little help of Japanac (both Gipsy Jungle disorganized crew). Soon you can also expect the audio recording of the event. We're just waiting for the approval of the label... Patience friends....

GJ REPORT: BEACH PARTY

This summer is full of gipsy/Balkan/world/electro/whatever you wanna call it parties. On Saturday Etnoblog (a very nice club in Trieste, on it's summer beach location) hosted hyperactive Austrian musician/producer/DJ Dunkelbunt. Slovene audience already had a chance to see him in Ljubljana a couple of months ago. What to say about his showcase? It wasn't bad, but still a bit to Austrian for our little Balkan crew. Italian crowd seemed to love it though; they went crazy and all you could hear was comments like bravissimo, che simpatico.... Our own little self was much more impressed by the set of the local DJ Stoner, who, if we exclude a track from Severina, played a wicked set before and after the star of the evening.
There are more nice events to come in Etnoblog (Balkanxpress, Zion Train...), so if you find yourself on the Italian cost, drop by and let yourself be pleasantly surprised.

GJ RECOMMENDS: KARANDILA WILL SHAKE GROMKA TONIGHT

One of the most respected Bolgarian brass bands Karandila is returnig to Ljubljana after almost eight years (they first time they had a concert in Ljubljana was on the notorious 9/11 0f 2001). The orchestra's source of musical inspiration includes a repertoire of Oriental, Arabic and Turkish tunes, along with traditional Balkan Gipsy rhythms. They also add a wide range of styles, from bebop, jazz, African sounds to swing. Over the years they have charmed the European audience, were stars of manny festivals, supported Goran Bregović on one of his Italian tours, been featured on the first of the Balkanbeats compilations (song Djelem, djelem feat. Maya).
The show tonight will certainly be different from the one in 2001. The band has grown and evolved, the singer Anita Christy joined the band. Musicians are even more daring when it comes to mixing different styles and influences. Worth moving your ass from your couch to Gromka for some pure Karandila sound!

GJ REPORT: THE BEST GIPSY JAZZ IN TOWN

Another week, another gipsy music concert. This time we saw Picikato brass band and Ferus Mustafov in KUD France Preseren.
First to walk on stage in front of half empty hall was Picikato brass band. Maybe the lack of audience is to blame for a lukewarm start. The guys are good musicians, but at start they did not seem very intact. Later on it got much better but it was already time to stop and make some space for the master on the saxophone.
Ferus Mustafov and the band made us forget we even saw a concert before and Ferus once again proved why he is called the king; the speed, the precision, the energy... It was some really awesome gipsy jazz!
