GJ REPORT: LAST BUT NOT LEAST - ŠUKAR
As expected, Šukar had everyone throwing their hands, moving their feet and swinging their hips from beginning to end. Along the way the audience was treated to a number of songs featuring the lovely Jadranka Juras on vocals and some tasty sax and clarinet, compliments of Vasko Atanasovski. Meanwhile, throughout the show Nenad Ljubotina was faithfully switching between his diverse assortment of stringed instruments, like an etno-musical Superman, delivering a powerful mood for each song. In addition to nearly all the band members doing their parts on the energized vocals, Goran Moskovski on his drum kit & extras and Štefan Švagelj on contrabass were masterfully pinning down some fiery Balkan rhythms to lead us on.
Somehow the pace of the show just seemed to keep picking up energy, even through a few encore favorites, to the very end when everyone, on and off stage, was sweaty and completely exhausted. Sadly, this was the last of the Gipsy Jungle's Francetovih Jesenskih pet concert series. It really went out with a bang!

GJ VIDEO: FAVELA BLAST-OFF @ RDEČA OSTRIGA
It was Saturday and the weather conditions were terible. That did not stop us checking out A day for tolerance concert in Škofja Loka and Favela Blast-Off afterparty. Lot's of jumpimg and dancing was necessary to keep one warm at the outdoor concert of Ali En and the bend. DJ Tito and beatboxers Murat, Žiga and Wilson also performed in the middle of the snowstorm. The after party took place in Rdeča Ostriga, where the temperatures were nicer, the drinks were cheap, people were in great mood, VJ-ing by Nestor was eye-catching and the music - mixed by Government 4000 and DJ Tito - was great! We are adding a little video made by or videomaster Gadni, for the taste of the party. Just for you...
GJ VIDEO: KORAI ÖRÖM

GJ PRESENTS: GRAND FINALE WITH ŠUKAR

The years is coming to it's end, and so is the Francetovih jesenskih pet concert cycle. We saved the best for last – next Thursday group Šukar is going to perform on KUD France Prešeren's stage. Guys are going to make a unique tribute to Šaban Bajramović, the Gipsy king and a drunk, as he liked to call himself.
Šaban Bajramović was one of the biggest legends of Gipsy music in the world. His voice intoxicated worldwide public since 1964. Nehru and Indira Ghandy invited him to India, where he was named the worldwide king of Gipsy music. He wrote over 800 compositions and inspired many musicians. One of them was Goran Bregović, who colaborated with the king many times.
As did the group Šukar. The Slovenian group started playing music of the Roma people two decades ago. It was the first Slovenian group ever to bring the music of East and Southeuropean Gipsies to domestic audience. In the last twenty years, they have toured around Europe and even Japan. The five-members group is working on the first album with authorial material at the moment. Some of them will also be presented on the upcoming concert in KUD France Prešeren, where singer Jadranka Juras and saxophonist Vasko Atanasovski is going to join the group on stage.
Last but not least, Koromandija world music shop will present a fresh album with song of Šaban Bajramovič, which were published just recently. Good news for all real Šaban fans!

GJ REPORT: OVERWHELMING KORAI ÖRÖM
From the opening song they set a powerful and eclectic tone, guaranteed to reward listeners' full attention. It was immediately apparent that this group is full of high-calibre musicians; the focused development and direction of each song showed the brilliant collaborative energy and backgrounds of the entire band. But don't be confused that it was just fascinating - it was also damn fun and wildly energetic! Puctuated with unique dancing and tremendous applause, even thru 2 encores, the audience gave a pretty good clue of how they felt about the show.
Featuring seven musicians on drums, other varied percussion, bass, guitar, keyboards, wind instruments (and a juice harp) and vocals - but not always necessarily lyrics, they weaved their sound so fully, it was sometimes tough to identify a particular riff with its player. All this created and immense and passionate wave of sound flooding KUD with their wide and dynamic intersection of genres, or as vaguely and well-put on the flyer: Psychadelic ethno progressive. Korai Öröm naturally covered a lot of territory in style!

WIN A YEARLONG FREE PASS FOR ALL GIPSY JUNGLE EVENTS

A while ago Gipsy Jungle crew member DJ Tito was a guest on Radio Student. In an interview enabled by Ziggi Rolling Papers, Tito presented the crew, described our parties, talked about up-coming events (Šukar, Favela Blast-Off) and shared his view of the music scene in Slovenia and worldwide. One thing is certain. Tito is a natural born speaker and the interview is consecutively very listenable (yes, we know it's not a real word, but we like it anyway). Not only that. If you listen to it and count how many times the host and Tito say Gipsy jungle, you have a chance to win a free pass to all of Gipsy Jungle events in the upcoming year. So prick up your ears and start counting.
GJ REPORT: BELLYDANCERS @ MENZA
The lively performance of local Oriental Dancers in Menza pri koritu Saturday night was undoubtedly the best and most fun follow-up to the somewhat connected SILA Bazar event in Gospodarsko razstavišče earlier in the day. This collection of oriental dancers tirelessly entertained a packed Menza with their enchanting and passionate moves for a couple-hour-long, very full show. The dancers' silky-fluid grace and girations, extravagant costumes, stage combinations and the stirring eastern music program completely owned the audience's deepest attention, even through the end of the show when a few of the dancers would hit the stage for more...clearly no one could get enough!

GJ PRESENTS: KORAI ÖRÖM @ KUD FRANCE PREŠEREN
Hungarian band Korai Öröm is rocking the stages around Europe since 1990. They describe their style as progressive tribal-trance-ethno. Their concerts are eclectic; an explosion of sounds - from East European traditional music to modern styles, such as rock and electronic music. As somebody once said: "Korai Öröm amalgamates the sounds of an array of ethnicities and galaxies in its music, which is indescribably abundant, yet most certainly digestible." In the past 20 fruitful years the band has released 10 albums, last in May this year. The up-coming concert in KUD France Prešeren will be an opportunity to present the newest sounds as well as some oldies goldies. And that's just what the guys promise to do! So nomads of all sorts, come join the dancing tribe!
