GJ REPORT: ASIAN DUB FUNDATION @ FESTIVAL LENT

Just before Maribor first rain drops started to fall. Not very encouraging news, but few rain drops didn't stop us on the way to the concert of Asian Dub Fundation. We have seen these legends of ragga-jungle and d'n'b rhythms at all possible locations, in a very different weather conditions and in varying line-ups. This time they came to Slovenia as one of the Festival Lent headliners. Did they justify their function? Yes and no. It's always a joy to see ADF performing live. The combination of electronics, live music and furious MC's sooner or later makes you wanna dance, jump and sing along. The audience was in a really good mood this time also, but the material from the last album A History of Now did not make such a strong impression. The songs like A History of Now, Futureproof, New Lodnon Eye still have the same ADF basic sound but are combined with more rockish, at moment even popish rhythms in a Linking park manner, which are really not flatering for legends such as ADF. And when we heard the older material such as Rise to the challenge, Fly over, Rebel warrior and Fortress Europe, we kind of missed the MC-ing of Spex MC and Master D. But what can you do. The group is a living organism and if you're on the scene for almost 15 years, the changes in your style and sound are logical. To sum it up: the crowd was great, the rain stopped and all in all it was nice to see the guys again.
