GJ REPORT: GOOD FUN WITH THE AUTHENTICS

The Authentics opened with a powerful instrumental and some great energy (like a proper ska band should) to a pleasantly full concert hall in KUD France Prešeren wednesday evening. They kept up the pace as frontman Andrej Rismondo soon joined in with his unique, personable vocals. Within a few songs the crowd thawed, though in typical Slovene fashion, the front-center before the stage remained relatively open, which amusingly singer wasn't too shy to point out. If you like horns, saxes particularly, you were in for a treat with at least three at any one time, plus a trombone to keep folks like me happy. So they worked through some funky new album material as well as other ska, blues, reggae, and soul classics, all up-tempo Authentics style (which means good fun!) Somehow the little stage managed to accommodate all nine members being as lively as they could get away with. After a few-year absence, it's great to see this favorite Karst ska band is definitively back in the groove.
